Petroleum Exploration (Pvt) Ltd (PEL), a private sector Pakistani company has announced a significant discovery of natural gas in its Badin South Block located in district Sajjawal (Sindh). PEL is the operator of the Block. The well named as Aminah-1 was spud-in on 6th January, 2016 and reached the target depth of 2297 meters on 3rd February, 2016. Based on the wire line logs, potential hydrocarbon bearing zone were identified in Lower Guru formation. Initial testing of lower guru formation flowed 16 MMSCFD gas at 48/64 Choke size. Thus confirming the presence of commercial quantity of natural gas at Aminah-1.
The discovery augurs well for the energy requirements of the country and will act as stimulant for further exploration in the region.
Mr. Zaheeruddin, Chairman & Chief Executive of PEL, informed that his Company is committed to build a strong indigenous base of oil & gas exploration and to contribute in reducing Pakistan's dependence on imports of the petroleum products. To achieve this goal he disclosed that his Company, with its joint venture partners, has embarked upon an aggressive exploration programme and is all geared up to drill another exploratory well, Ayesha North-1, in the same Block.
Badin South Block having two discoveries i.e. Ayesha-1 and Aminah-1 will together be producing approximately 25 MMSCFD of high quality gas. All efforts are afoot to bring these two discoveries on stream within the shortest possible time. It is pertinent to mention that PEL is already producing 10 MMSCFD from Block-22 and 11 MMSCFD from Badar Block. Its production portfolio also includes 10 MMCDF from Badar - 2 well, 13 MMSCFD with 113 bbl of condensate from Ayesha-1. These are proven discoveries and are being connected to the national grid on a fast track basis. PEL's cumulative production from various fields will rise to over 60 MMSCFD of natural gas in about four months.
