Senior General Manager Operations
Shamim Ahmed Bhatti is the Senior General Manager Operations heading
Production,
Drilling, Reservoir Engineering and Process Departments including Fields Development Projects in close
coordination with JV partners and Governmental Agencies.
Mr. Bhatti has worked for more than 48 years in Oil and Gas Industry. After securing
his degree in Petroleum & Gas Engineering in year 1972 from University of Engineering and Technology,
Lahore, he started his career as Assistant Engineer in Sui Gas Transmission Company working at Sui Gas
Field, Baluchistan for four years thereafter, continued to work for over 27 years in Oil and Gas Development
Company Limited (OGDCL) and got early retirement as Executive Director (Production). He then joined Mari Gas
Company Ltd (MGCL) as Senior General Manager for more than 6 years. During his tenure of OGDCL and MGCL, he
attended a number of short courses and was involved in number of studies abroad.
General Manager Coordination
Brig ® Mohammad Saleem holds a BSc (Honors) degree and is a graduate of Command & Staff Colleague, Quetta. He has served in Pakistan Army as a commissioned officer for 28 years and held various command, staff and instructional appointments. He has also served as General Manager Personnel (Human Resources) in Fauji Foundation for five years. He has been associated with the Group since October 2000.
General Manager Geophysics
Muhammad Maroof holds a B.Sc degree and a six months training in Seismic
Interpretation from Canada. In addition, he did several short courses abroad. He has hands on experience of
about 54 years in the field of oil and gas.
Mr. Maroof joined PEL in May 2009. He had been working for Oil and Gas Development
Company Limited (OGDCL) for about 31 years and retired as Manager Exploration in November 1997. He was
responsible for all kinds of exploration activities in one of the three exploration districts of Pakistan
including important fields like Qadirpur, Uch, Dodhak, Pirkoh, Loti, Nandpur, Panjpir etc in OGDCL.
Mr. Maroof also served as Exploration Consultant in Petronas Carigali (Pakistan) Ltd.
from November 1997 to May 1998. He evaluated several blocks for farm-in opportunities. He then served Mari
Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) as Manager Exploration / General Manager Exploration / Exploration Advisor
from May 1998 to April 2009 and was responsible for entire exploration activities in MPCL.
As General Manger Geophysics, Mr. Maroof is responsible for entire geophysical
activities in all D&P Leases and exploration blocks of PEL. He is associated with PEL for the last 11 years.
General Manager Exploration
M.Azam Malik acquired a Master’s Degree in Geology from University of Punjab in 1962
and joined OGDCL as Geologist. He attended various technical courses in USA and France. He is an
accomplished Petroleum Geoscientist with over 58 years of practical industry experience having proven track
record of oil and gas discoveries.
On research side, Mr. Malik had made valuable contributions in basin study projects
and played a leading role in high grade research on Analog Structural Modeling for fold and thrust belts of
Pakistan in collaboration with French Petroleum Institute.
Mr.Malik had held various executive positions particularly as Executive Director
Exploration OGDCL. He had been OGDCL’s representative for SUPARCO’s Earth Observation Program and for
International Gas Union. He had participated in various international symposia and conferences. He has
extensive experience of working in North Africa. For about 10 years he had been associated with Algeria’s
national oil company, SONATRACH.
After retirement from OGDCL in 2000, Mr. Malik joined Czech Petroleum Company (MND)as
its country General Manger in Pakistan and remained associated with till early 2007. He then, joined PEL as
GM Exploration and was assigned a number of exploration portfolios in Pakistan as well as three exploration
blocks designated as Haha Permits in Morocco. He managed first ever 3D seismic project in Haha exploration
acreage, followed by drilling of two exploratory wells.
In 2015, Olympus Petroleum, an affiliate of PEL in Morocco, acquired Abda Doukkala
reconnaissance license in central Morocco. Mr. Malik led team of geoscientists for in depth evaluation of
its petroleum potential.
Advisor
M. A. Shahid
is Advisor to the Director Operations. He holds Master’s Degree
(Distinction) in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, UK and a second Master’s
Degree (Honors) in Structural Engineering from Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand besides
qualifying BS in Civil Engineering (Honors) from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey.
He has been trained in various disciplines of Petroleum Engineering in USA, UK, France
and Indonesia. His work experience includes working for multinational E&P and Service providers like
Occidental and Schlumberger respectively.
Mr. Shahid has a rich experience of over 30 years primarily in Oil and Gas upstream
activities related to Petroleum & Reservoir Engineering, Well Testing & Completions, Production Optimization
and Drilling. He has a very strong petroleum and reservoir engineering background and remained actively
involved, throughout his career, in reservoir engineering, reserves estimation, reservoir simulation,
economic evaluation and field development of various oil and gas assets.
In 2009, he served British Petroleum to integrate newly acquired assets of MKK from
OPI to BP assets. In mid-2010, he joined Ocean Pakistan Limited (OPL) as General Manager (Process and
Facilities Engineering). During this period he actively participated in acquiring Zamzama field (BHP) to
OPL's assets. Served Petrolink Engineering Services as Director and constructed Sahiwal Oil terminal for
Attock Petroleum Limited.
Advisor
Syed Zahid Anwar is Advisor (Process & Facilities) to Director Operations. He
holds a
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from NED university of Engineering and Technology.
Mr.
Anwar has over 40 years of experience in Oil & Gas, Oil Refinery and Petrochemical
plants. He has served for over 7 years in Pakistan Refinery Ltd. (Shell) before joining Occidental Petroleum
(OXY) in 1987.
In 2002, Mr. Anwar served in Orient Petroleum as General Manager (Production &
Facilities) till 2008. During this period large Oil & Gas facilities were developed in Mirpurkhas & Khipro
(MKK) concessions, comprising of 160 MMscfd gas processing facilities, LPG recovery plant and a network of
pipelines.
His work experience includes not only the development and evaluation of new fields
both in sandstone and fractured limestone reservoirs in deep high pressure regions, but also in rejuvenating
old and depleted fields through secondary and tertiary recovery methods.
General Manager Drilling
Muhammad Jamil
completed his Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from University
of Engineering & Technology - Lahore in 1971 and further one-year specialization in Drilling Operations,
Well Planning (Cementation, Drilling Fluid, Bit hydraulics etc.) and HSE from Oklahoma Institute, USA in
1983.
Mr.Jamil has over 45 years of experience in drilling more than 250 onshore &offshore
wells from various multinationals E & P entities including Saudi Aramco and OGDCL. He has been vested with
several performance records, is responsible for setting new benchmarks in all areas of Drilling Operations
and has won numerous performance awards from both multinational & national organizations during his tenure
from 1973 to 2006.
Currently, being a part of PEL for more than over a decade, Mr. Jamil successfully
completed over dozens of wells in timely and cost-effective manner.
General Manager Taxation
Aamir Hameed holds B.com degree from Peshawar University. He has done article ship with Khalid Majid & Company, a Chartered Accountant entity and got practical experience in Taxation. Mr. Hameed has worked in HUNT International Petroleum Company, Islamabad as Accounts Officer for 7 years. Later joined PEL in November 1996 and is presently holding the portfolio of General Manager Taxation.
General Manager Business Development
Babar Majid has
over 25 years+ extensive exposure (22 years+ in Pakistan Oil & Gas
sector) to the diverse and key dimensions of business management functions. A Board of Directors’ level
professional who has served on the Board of Directors of two public sector companies. Besides, having worked
at senior level in corporate and government sector, Mr. Majid is skilled in business and regulatory level
strategic planning, monitoring and execution, organizational revamp & restructuring, international
commercial negotiation, B2B and G2G large scale and capital-intensive infrastructure projects, project
financing, operational economics & revenue optimization, energy pricing, forecasting, commercial
appraisals, economic & financial modelling, etc.
Mr. Majid holds MBA from University of Central
Punjab, Lahore (1996). During career
progression, he held various positions in Pakistan Oil & Gas, Real Estate Investment Management and
Mineral Sectors. Mr. Majid also remained engaged as a Consultant with an Omani Oil & Gas company and two
Chinese conglomerates. He has represented country on multiple international forums such as CPEC, ECO, SAARC,
TAPI and IPI projects, Oil Refinery with ADNOC and Saudi Aramco.
While working as General Manager
(Business Development, Sales & Marketing) with
Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC) in 2020, Mr. Majid was an integral member of team which
secured the Geographical Indication Protection (GIP) for Pakistan’s Himalayan Pink Rock Salt in
international market through World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) under World Trade Organization
(WTO). Earlier, he was nominated as Secretary / Member of Pakistan’s first high level Joint LNG Import
Working Group (JLNGIWG) constituted by President of Pakistan in 2009 for Mashal LNG Project. In addition, he
was also appointed as member of high-level Coordination Committee constituted by Prime Minister of Pakistan
in 2019 for development of new oil refining projects in the country with foreign investments. Also acted as
resource person to Petroleum Division, GoP on Oil & Gas projects under China Pakistan Economic Corridor-
CPEC (2014 -2020).
Mr. Majid has completed / participated in strategic assignments in Pakistan Oil
&
Gas sector; namely, acquisition of National Refinery Ltd by Attock Group (2004), establishment of Attock
Generation Ltd in 2005, transactions structuring, governmental and commercial contractual framework related
to IP and TAPI Gas pipelines (2007 - 2014), Tarujabba - Machike Oil Pipeline project (2003 & 2015),
Strategic Petroleum Reserves (2015), PARCO Coastal Refinery Project, Saudi Aramco Refinery Project (2016 -
2020), Deferred Oil payment facility of US$3.2 billion arranged on G2G basis with Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
for procurement of Saudi origin crude oil and petroleum products by local refineries and PSO
He also
coordinated and successfully implemented various BPR and BMR assignments and
is experienced in ERP implementation.
Deputy General Manager Finance
Air Commodore ® Muhammad Yousaf Javed holds a Master’s
degree in Banking and Finance
with distinction and earned a Gold Medal. He has a vast experience in Finance and retired as Director of
Accounts Pakistan Air Force after serving for 30 years.
Mr.Javed joined PEL in 2006 and is looking
after all financial matters of the company
including treasury. For meritorious service rendered, Mr. Javed has been awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz(Military)
by Pakistan Air Force (PAF).
Senior Manager Exploration
Haider
Ali Shah graduated from the Center of Excellence in Geology, University of
Peshawar and completed Master’s Degree in Geology with specialization in Exploration Geophysics from the
University of Southwestern Louisiana, USA under a Fulbright Scholarship.
Mr. Shah has a diversified
experience of more than 48 years in the country’s E& P
sector. He joined AMOCO Pakistan Exploration Company in 1972 as Geologist and carried out extensive Field
Geological mapping projects in the Fold Belts as well as Well Site operations. He joined national Oil and
Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) in 1981 where he, in various supervisory positions accomplished
multidisciplinary assignments including Field Geological mapping, Well Site operations, Prospect Generation,
Basin and Petroleum System analysis.
Mr. Shah joined Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) in 2010 as
Exploration Consultant
where he carried out evaluation of blocks, coordination with the exploration teams and peer reviews. Since
2011 he has been working with Petroleum Exploration (Private) Limited (PEL) as Manager Exploration I/C Badin
and Offshore Indus blocks, responsible for their technical evaluation, drilling programs and wellsite
operations.
Senior Manager Exploration
Muhammad Maas Siddiqui holds M.Sc. Degree in Geophysics from Quaid-e-Azam
University,
Islamabad, Pakistan. He holds a total of 40 years’ experience in exploration& production of hydrocarbons. He
began his career in 1980 as a Geophysicist with Oil and Gas Development Company Ltd. and worked in various
positions in OGDCL Exploration and Prospect Generation departments for 26 years.
Mr. Siddiqui was
also a member of international team of geoscientists and analyzed the
geological and geophysical data for the concession blocks in Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Libya and Oman for the
participation in bidding round. After leaving OGDCL in 2006 he joined Dewan Petroleum Pvt. Limited as
Manager Exploration. Heal so served Dewan Petroleum Pvt. Ltd as G.M Exploration. Later he served Petroleum
Technology Solutions & IPR as Geophysical Consultant since February 2013. He is an active member of PAPG and
also presented papers in conferences.
Mr. Siddiqui joined Petroleum Exploration (Private) Limited as
Manager Geophysics in
May 2014. Presently he is portfolio manager looking after exploration and development activities in blocks
which include Badar ML, Kandra D&PL,Block-22, Salam, Mirpur mathelo, Mirpurkhas west and New Larkana. He is
also looking over exploration activities in Morocco Haha EL assets and Doukala Abda Reconnaissance.
Manager Process
Zulfiqar Ali Khalid holds Bachelor in Chemical Engineering with specialization in
Petroleum & Gas from Punjab University and a Masters from Texas A&M University, USA, respectively. He
possesses more than 35 years’ experience with expertise in O&M of Processing plants, Front End Engineering
Design, EPC Projects and Project Management.
Mr. Ali served Pak Saudi Fertilizers, Pakistan for 2
years. He then moved to US for
his Master’s Degree, after which he worked with Gulf Oil, Texas USA for 3 years as Senior Process Engineer.
He worked in OGDCL for 11 Years on various assignments as Plant Manager, Dakhni & Dhodhak Gas & Condensate
Plants.
He joined ADNOC, Abu Dhabi as Process Head for the world’s largest onshore Plant at
Habshan processing >5000 MMSCFD gas for 10 years. He also served in the capacity of Project Engineering
Manager for 5 years with Major Projects Division, during which he had developed and commissioned new gas
plants (Capacity-2000 MMSCFD). He was also associated with Petroleum Development, Oman as Process Manager
from 2014-2015. PDO has gas output of 3000 MMSCFD.
Mr. Ali is engaged with PEL for the last 04 years
as Manager Process. He is actively
sharing his vast and diversified knowledge by providing state of the art solutions to various operating
fields and development projects of PEL that includesBlock-22, Ayesha Field, Badar and Kandra field.
Commercial and Legal Manager
Kamran Shuja
is currently working as Senior Commercial Manager in PEL for the past 14
years. He holds diverse experience in energy sector with focus on all the Financial, Commercial and Legal
matters.
Mr. Shuja has been awarded the degree of MBA in Oil and Gas Management from Centre for
Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (“CEPMLP”) from University of Dundee (“UoD”) Scotland, UK.
Country Manager, Morocco
Muhammad Talha Waheed has earned MSc. Finance from University of Leicester, UK and MBA(Finance) from Bahria University Islamabad, Pakistan. As Country Manager (Morocco– PEL) he is overall responsible for managing all branch operations smoothly and efficiently in Kingdom of Morocco for Petroleum Exploration (Pvt) Limited and Olympus Energy International Inc. It includes, dealing with all administrative, legal, commercial, technical and financial matters in accordance with laws and regulations of Morocco and corporate policies of group, presenting annual budgets &producing a business operating plan to Board of Directors.
Manager Finance
Assad Saeed is
an exceptional financial professional, holding certifications from
various accounting bodies: Fellow Management Accountant (FCMA), Certified Financial Consultant (CFC),
Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA). He joined PEL in 2008 and has
been working dutifully as Manager Finance since then.
Mr. Saeed has accumulated over 26 years of
professional experience in a diverse range
of sectors and industries including: Oil and Gas, Development Sector, Telecom Industry and Construction &
Services Industry. He specializes in Financial System designs and Implementation of ERP systems with a
special focus on Internal Controls and risk management at corporate Governance levels.
